Kent's bowling attack are spending time in warmer climate as they gear up for the start of pre-season towards the end of the month.
After a long hard winter it seems inconceivable that cricket will be played at St Lawrence in a little over three weeks, but weather permitting, that’s exactly what will happen when Nottinghamshire arrive on March 31.
The squad meet up for outdoor training a week earlier, but the county’s bowling attack are already doing the hard yards abroad.
Strike bowler Robbie Joseph, who underwent shoulder surgery at the end of last season, is making good progress. He is spending three weeks in Antigua and has been joined by club physio Nimmo Reid and bowling coach Geoff Arnold.
Paceman Amjad Khan is in Melbourne, Australia for five weeks building up for the start of the county season, while Simon Cook jetted off for Hong Kong on Wednesday where he will spend three weeks playing.
The squad will be joined by triallists Jahid Ahmed, Dave Burton and Will Rudge as they look to earn themselves a contract at St Lawrence.
Head coach Paul Farbrace is pleased with where his squad is ahead of his first fixture in charge.
“We are happy that all three bowlers are in a good place and we think we’ve got them well covered,” he said. “The trialists will be coming for at least two of the three weeks and there maybe a couple of others that come in during pre-season training. It’s up to them not only to show they can bowl but have the appetite to take a second chance. We won’t be signing someone just for the sake of it - if they aren’t up to it we won’t sign them.”
