Ruby Smith has cared for her sick mother since she was four years old and raised more than £1,000 for charity
A young girl from Deal who has cared for her sick mother since she was just four years old has been recognised for her fundraising achievements.
Ruby Smith has been shortlisted by JustGiving for the Young Fundraiser of the Year award for completing a muscle-busting 100 press-up challenge in the middle of Deal High Street.
The 10-year-old, whose mother suffered a stroke during childbirth, was inspired to raise money for the Stroke Association.
Her target was £300, which she smashed by raising a massive £1,082.
Ruby said: “I was very surprised to hear that I had made it through to the finals for the JustGiving Awards, but I’m very pleased. “I really enjoyed doing my challenge and it was lovely to have so much support from so many people. I’m really excited about going to London for the ceremony – I can’t wait.”
The awards celebrate the achievements of over 380,000 fundraisers and 8,000 charities which have used the site to raise over £200 million for good causes over the past year. JustGiving managing director Anne-Marie Huby said: “It has been a real joy to read the nominations and learn of fundraisers’ and charities’ endeavours.”
