Government expected to announce new road charges today
Foreign lorry drivers will be charged to drive on UK roads, the Government is expected to announce today.
It will spell a victory for UK haulage firms which have long campaigned to bring in charges for foreign hauliers coming to Britain from Europe.
Currently, UK lorry drivers face toll charges across the Channel while European drivers pay nothing to use the roads in this country.
Daily charges are expected to be around £10. Under EU law UK drivers must also pay but they will be refunded the money by being let off other taxes.
